Shotgun Mic with Directional Sound Pickup
Most built-in camera microphones are omnidirectional to pick up sound from all directions, which results in undue noise and ambience. The MKE 400 uses a supercardioid/lobar polar pattern to capture sources in front of the mic while attenuating side- and rear-entry sound. Low-noise electronics and a sensitive condenser element allow it to deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.
Quick Hookup to Camera
The MKE 400 has a permanently attached coiled cable to ensure fast hookup to your camera without excess cable slack. The cable's 3.5mm TRS plug features a dual-mono configuration, which routes identical signal to both input channels on your camera or portable recorder.
Extremely Long Battery Life
A single AAA battery powers the MKE 400 for up to 300 hours of operating time. The dedicated battery LED flashes briefly upon power up to indicate sufficient battery voltage, and lights up continually when the battery should be replaced.
Approximately 50 hours of run time remain once the low-battery indicator lights up. To conserve battery life during periods of inactivity, use the power switch to turn off the mic or remove the battery from the battery compartment.
Bass Roll-Off
When excessive low-frequency noise from HVAC systems and traffic interferes with the clarity of your audio, activate the low-cut filter to attenuate bass frequencies while letting midrange and high-frequencies pass through unaffected.
Adjustable Sensitivity
Achieving proper recording levels is crucial to avoiding distortion. The MKE 400's adjustable sensitivity provides two settings to optimize the mic's audio signal volume. Normal sensitivity is recommended when miking normal to loud sources and recording to devices with high input sensitivity. Select high sensitivity when miking quiet sources or using cameras with low input sensitivity.
Integral Shockmount Rejects Vibrations
The MKE 400 incorporates an integral shockmount to reject the transfer of vibrations such as handling noise. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 1/4"-20 thread, ensuring simple attachment to your camera or a tripod (available separately).
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The foam windscreen on the MKE 400 is designed to lessen undesirable wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, acquire a furry windshield such as the Sennheiser MZW 400 (available separately), which also comes with an adapter that lets you plug the MKE 400 into the XLR input of a professional camcorder.
Durable Metal Construction
The MKE 400's all-metal construction provides a durable, rugged frame for rigorous operation in a variety of environments.
